A few days have passed since TripAdvisor declared it’s top 10 beaches in New Zealand, and another survey has revealed that New Zealand has one of the world’s best hidden beaches.

Tourism company Kuoni surveyed more than 2000 people to discover the world’s best secret beaches, and it showed that Farewell Spit is in the top five.

Farewell Spit is an isolated beach recognized as a perfect place for researchers and shutterbugs. The beach has been across the news this month due to a number of whales being driven ashore.

Referring to Kuoni’s list of hidden travel secrets, reporter Rachel O’Reilly said: “While the Grand Canyon, the Great Wall of China and the Taj Mahal engage thousands of visitors each year and still stay on people’s wish lists, there are a lot of travelers who are now looking for some solitary places.”

Besides famous tourist attractions, the world has so much to offer and now we can see a trend for people seeking some alternative places and feelings.”

As a nature park and bird reservation spanning 29 km out into the Tasman sea, Farewell Spit is blasts the competition for isolated beauty.

Other secret beaches named are the Philippines’ El Nido Pangulasian Island, Con Dao Island in Vietnam, Gili Meno Island in Indonesia, and the Grenadines’ Margaret Beach on Bequia.
