Recently, pilot and owner of advertising agency The Goat Farm, Vaughn Davis took a penis-shaped flight path across Auckland. Davis said the 50-kilometer flight was in the name of testicular cancer awareness and prevention to promote the new website goballsout.org.nz.

The website, launched in April, encourages users to create penis-shaped ‘masterpieces’ on their exercise tracking apps. With April was Testicular Cancer Awareness month, and with testicular cancer being the most common cancer affecting men between the ages of 15 and 39, Davis’ flight was timely.

Davis said he was asked to create the flight path by Testicular Cancer NZ. They had seen him create another (albeit accidental) penis-shaped flight in October 2016. Davis improved on his previous flight path using careful GPS routing. His route took him from north of Orewa, south to Piha, over the Tasman Sea and back from Muriwai.

“I spent about 30 minutes on top of my usual pre-flight planning, identifying a route that would give the desired result,” Davis said.

He had to get special clearance from the military control tower in Whenuapai to enter restricted airspace to create the interesting flight-path picture, and had to be careful to keep his four-seat Piper Arrow on track. “As my flight was tracked continuously by radar I had to make sure that I kept precisely to the planned track, any deviation would have shown up in the finished image.”

Davis does not currently have any other unusual flight paths planned.
