New Zealand is one of the most picturesque and incredible countries on Earth. With its’ unique range of flora and fauna, NZ offers a wide range of activities for tourists. Even better, its small size means you can get around in a short space of time.

There is no specific high season for visitors to New Zealand as the national parks, forests, walking tracks, lakes, mountains, and beaches are beautiful year round. Still, there is something extra-special about springtime.

Discover why New Zealand is the perfect spring vacation destination.

Auckland

Located on the North Island, Auckland is New Zealand’s biggest city with a population of around 1.3 million.

SkyTower is an observation tower and the tallest freestanding building in the Southern Hemisphere, right in the center of town. To enjoy some of the most amazing views of the city, take the elevator to the top.  It costs just $28 NZD and there’s also a 360° revolving rooftop restaurant where you can dine in luxury.

Another awesome view of the city can be seen from Mount Eden. From the top, you will see all of Auckland and if you’re there at the right time of day, catch a truly divine sunset.

To enjoy Auckland’s marine life, visit Haraiku Gulf – take a boat tour out to see some whales, and make sure you take a camera.

Waiheke Island

If you haven’t yet seen whales on your trip, head to Waiheke Island on the ferry and you might be lucky.

This beautiful island with its bohemian history is now a destination for lovers of good food and wine. Take a drive around to visit the island’s vineyards and wineries, making sure you stop small producers along the way. After a gourmet lunch, end with a swim in one of Waiheke’s turquoise coves before catching the last ferry back to the mainland. You’ll be forgiven for not wanting to leave – plenty of visitors over the years have decided to stay.

Hobbiton

Just 2 hours drive south of Auckland is a small town called Matamata. At first sight, its shops and library are nothing special and the place looks to offer nothing for the tourist, but appearances are deceiving.

Matamata is the home of Hobbiton, the film set for the the Hobbit and the famous Lord of the Rings trilogy. Tourists can take a tour of Hobbiton and hear all about how the sets were constructed as well as learn other interesting details from knowledgeable local guides. Experience this far away fairy tale for yourself!
